SAGARMALA PROJECT : Projecting INDIA as a Superpower

The ‘Sagarmala’ Programme was originally mooted by the National Democratic Alliance (India) Government under ‘Atal Bihari Vajpayee’ in 2003. On 25 March 2015 ‘Narendra Modi’ led Cabinet gave approval for the ‘Sagarmala’ Programme.

๐Ÿ”ฑ Other Ports : 200 notified minor and intermediate ports.

๐Ÿ“Œ Around 95 % of India’s trading by Volume and 70 % by Value is done through Maritime Transport.

๐Ÿ“Œ Current Cargo handling capacity of Indian Ports is 1500 MMTPA, which needs to be increased to 3500+ MMTPA by 2025.

In totality ‘Sagarmala’ project have 577 projects worth US$130 billion (8.57 lakh crore) for implementation during 2015-2035. As of 31-Mar-2018, a total of 492 projects worth US$63 billion (4.26 lakh crore) were under various stages of implementation, development and completion.
